The Space
Kolkata, India’s cultural capital, has always been a city of books. And the Oxford Bookstore, Kolkata, the second oldest book store in India, has indeed been the lifeline of the city’s booklovers who revel in the joys of browsing, invariably to discover the intellectual treasures stored here. Located in the Arcade of The Park in downtown Kolkata, the Oxford Bookstore now comprises over 6,000 square feet of multilevel interactive space with more than 40 categories of books.

 

The Shelves
The facilities include about a 100 well-researched, well-stocked and displayed book sections. The Bookstore has

outstanding collections especially in Travel, Fiction, Literature, New Age, Cookery, Arts & Design, Architecture, Indo-Anglican Literature and Environment. And over the years, Oxford Bookstore has built a close rapport with leading publishing houses like Penguin, Oxford University Press, Random House, Harper Collins, Thames and Hudson.

With one of the city’s largest collections of journals and periodicals, the magazine section at Oxford Bookstore is extremely popular and well stocked with both Indian and, British and American publications. It is one of the few bookstores in Kolkata that stock foreign language newspapers and magazines.

Cha Bar
The store’s visitors often relax here with a cup of fragrant tea here. Time spent thumbing through books can be tiring. And Oxford Bookstore Kolkata offers exceptionally fine teas like Darjeeling, Assam, Nilgiri, along with Organic blends, to energise the readers.

 

Gifts
Gifts, reading-related items as well as a range of beautiful stationary are all available here. Oxford Bookstore promotes a range of exquisite eco-friendly products, tribal artifacts and recycled paper gifts here.

Performances/ Events
Oxford Bookstore Kolkata takes pride in being one of the few outlets in the country that has hosted Book launches, Book Readings, Signings and lively interactive sessions with established literary gurus, as well as aspiring writers from India and abroad. Dominique Lapierre, Arundhati Roy, Kiran Nagrakar, Kiran Bedi, Alyque Padamsee, Shobha De, Rajkamal Jha, Amitav Ghosh, Jairam Ramesh (to name a few) have released some of their works here.
