This journey began on October 12 2007, when I met Rashesh Shah, founder of Edelweiss Capital. This interview was to later become chapter 12 of my book 'Stay Hungry Stay Foolish'.
Before we began recording, Rashesh made an observation. He said,"You are an entrepreneur, writing a book about entrepreneurship. This book will be very different, very useful to people."
At the time, I had no real direction or goal. But yes, I knew my book had to be different and useful to the readers. So kept it simple, story-like and not a 'management case study'.
And that has been my approach for every book I write. In 2009, I published my second book 'Connect the Dots' - the inspiring stories of 20 non-MBAs who dared to find their own path. And on the 8th of June 2011, my third book 'I Have a Dream' has been released. This book features the inspiring stories of 20 social entrepreneurs ie men and women who have found new solutions to old problems, in areas that affect us all as a society.
Okay. So the first two books were exciting for all those of you who dream of starting your own business. What about 'I Have a Dream'? Isme mere liye kya hai...
Well I would just say that:
a) 'I Have a Dream' expands on the idea that you can do good and make a profit. Read about ventures as diverse as Sulabh Souchalay and Super 30 in the 'Rainmakers' section
b) Every entrepreneur has to struggle, has to be creative and determined. Even if you have no interest in becoming a social entrepreneur, each and every story is highly inspiring and the learnings applicable - to anything you choose to do.
c) Bhai, khud to desh ke liye kuch kar nahin rahe ho. The least you can do is read and appreciate the good work done by others!
Lastly, I hope that after reading 'I have a dream', you are motivated to do a little something for someone else. It may be a small donation of your time, effort or money.
But remember, no act of giving is 'small' or 'big'. And whatever you give, you will get back a multiple. Of love, affection, goodwill and good karma.
Keep dreaming - for yourself and for others! Together, we can create a better world.
Love,
Rashmi Bansal

I Have A Dream is the story of 20 idealists who think and act like entrepreneurs. They are committed to different causes, but they have one thing in common: a belief that principles of management can and must be used to achieve a greater common good. These stories say one thing loud and clear change starts with one person, and that person could be someone next door. Someone like you. |
