Rekha releases Bollywood book at Oxfordbookstore, Mumbai

Oxford Bookstore, Mumbai in association with Dakini Books on September 23 announced the launch of Bollywood-Popular Indian Cinema . The book was launched by the enigmatic, evergreen actress  Rekha.

At the launch a debate was held on Bollywood- Respect or Ridicule, the panel of which comprised of some of the well-known faces that have given shapeto the present day Bollywood.


Javed Akhtar, Subhash Ghai, Ashutosh Gowarikar, Shyam Benegal, Gulzar and Amit Khanna presented their views during theinteractive session.

The book released by Rekha contains a Foreward by Derek Malcolm, one of the most revered film critics of world cinema. And a gripping analysis of the past 100 years has been penned down by the book's editor, Lalit Mohan Joshi.

The Bollywood legends themselves share their views about the industry-Gulzar, the famous lyrcist, explores the deep roots of song and dance, while the renowned filmmaker Shyam Benegal shares his unique insight of the filmmaking climate.

Acclaimed Indian film critics have given their in-depth reviews on Bollywood's burning subjects: a range of Bollywood classics and blockbusters have been discussed by Pratik Joshi and Maithili Rao describes what is in the heart and soul of this popular genre.

Meanwhile, Dolly Thakore evaluates the legends of Bollywood, whilst the underdogs- vamps and villains, are profiled by Deepa Gehlot. In the final chapter, Madhu Jain opens the doors to the future of Bollywood providing a close-up of a new generation of filmmalers, out there to conquer the West.

This book has been published by Dakini Books for whom this is the second international launch.
